Memorial Sven Gales 2010

R. Shah Sofian and C. Roleder win - A. John best time in heats

After a beak of 2 years, the Memorial Sven Gales was again organized this year in the frame of the Inauguration Meeting. And what thrilling races did we see! If in the heats Alex John could do the best time, he could not win the final, as Rayzam Shah Sofian from Malaysia finished just 5/100th ahead.

Claude Godart qualified for the finals, and finished in a nice time of 14"84. Overall, the performances might look a little bit disappointing, but this was probably due to the rather strong facing wind, and probably dur to the fact the track still is quite soft as very new.

In the ladies race, another very interesting competition as Elisabeth Davin and Cindy Roleder ran side by side for most of the race, and in the end Cindy could finish 6/100th ahead of Elisabeth.

M. Fortes wins - 20m unfortunately not achieved

In a highly impressive competition - probably the best of this kind having taken place in Luxembourg for a very long time - the numerous spectators could admire the strength, energy and fastness of these athletes. Even if 4 athletes have a personal best of over 20m, this magic limit was not achieved on Sunday. However, the stadium record was pulverized by almost 2 meters!

In a tight battle, Marco Fortes (POR) finally could take the lead in the 4th attempt, after Ukrainian Andrey Borodkin set the mark right in the first throw with 19.34m. Maksim Sidorov (RUS) was very regular, but finished third.

Rank Name Perf.
1 Marco FORTES (POR) 19.59m
2 Andrey BORODKIN (UKR) 19.34m
3 Maksim SIDOROV (RUS) 19.31m
4 Marco SCHMIDT (GER) 18.21m

Mémorial Sam Besch - Top Highjump

I. Gordeyeva jumps 1.93m

During her first appearance in Dudelange, the winner of Eberstadt 2009, Irina Gordeyeva from Russia, could also win the competition in Dudelange. After a nice series up to 1.93m, she was left alone on 1.96m, but due to first signs of fatigue, she could not manage this height. Swiss Beatrice Lundmark finished 2nd at only 1cm of her personal best, and Deidre Ryan from Ireland - who obviously really liked this kind of competition - finished at the 3rd rank.

Liz Kuffer improved her season best by 2cm, and with this jumped her second best performance ever - although a little bit disappointed, but in fact she showed a really nice competition.

Rank Name Perf.
1 Irina GORDEYEVA (RUS) 1.93m
2 Beatrice LUNDMARK (SUI) 1.91m
3 Deirdre RYAN (IRL) 1.88m
4 Romana DUBNOVA (CZE) 1.82m SB
5 Sietske NOORMAN (NED) 1.79m
6 Barbora LALAKOVA (CZE) 1.76m
7 Liz KUFFER (LUX) 1.76m SB
8 Sandrine CHAMPION (FRA) 1.76m
